Purchasing Agent — Commercial Construction (Electrical Subcontractor)
Position summary Responsible for procuring electrical materials, equipment, and subcontracted services for commercial construction projects. Manages vendor relationships, ensures timely deliveries, controls purchase documentation and inventory, and supports project teams to meet budget, schedule, safety, and quality objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Communicate with established vendors and manufacturers for electrical supplies, equipment, and specialty services (e.g. conduit, hangers, wire, hardware).
- Evaluate quotes for, completion, RFP adherence, pricing, lead times, payment terms, and warranties.
- Create and issue purchase orders (POs), change orders, and subcontract purchase agreements; ensure PO accuracy, tax requirements, cost coding and approvals.
- Monitor order status, coordinate expediting, and resolve delivery or quality issues to meet project schedules.
- Coordinate with project managers, foremen, estimators, and warehouse/logistics on material requirements, staging, receiving, returns, and deliveries.
- Process invoices for payment, resolve discrepancies with vendors/accounts payable, and support month-end close.
- Maintain and improve vendor master data, preferred vendor lists, and procurement procedures.
Required qualifications
- Strong knowledge of electrical materials (conduit, fittings, hardware, boxes, wire, etc)
- Proficiency with Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc).
- Effective communication and collaboration with project teams and field personnel.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple projects.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with inventory control, expediting, and logistics coordination.
- Familiarity with construction scheduling and cost control processes.
- 1–2 years purchasing/procurement experience in construction, preferably electrical subcontracting.
