As a Superintendent, you will play a vital leadership role, managing daily jobsite activities and ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality. You will supervise and coordinate the work of foremen and field crews, including laborers and craft workers, while serving as a critical link between field operations, project management, and the client. This is a high-responsibility, boots-on-the-ground position for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments and takes pride in delivering projects on time and within budget.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Read and thoroughly understand construction plans and specifications.
- Set grade stakes, slope stakes, and cut/fill stakes accurately.
- Interpret cut and fill areas to optimize production and site development efficiency.
- Establish weekly production goals and adjust activities as needed to maintain project schedule.
- Clearly communicate daily and weekly production targets to crew members.
- Manage multiple crews effectively, adjusting workflows to maximize productivity.
- Maintain accurate records of daily production, equipment delays, unforeseen project disruptions, and scope changes.
- Track and schedule delivery of materials and rental equipment (e.g., stone, pumps, contract trucks).
- Ensure all T.E. Stevens equipment assigned to the project is properly maintained and operated.
- Promote and enforce a safe work environment for all site activities.
- Foster a cooperative and productive atmosphere among laborers and team members.
- Sustain high workforce morale through strong leadership and effective communication.
- Inspect and verify the work of multiple crews and subcontractors for accuracy and quality.
- Monitor and document subcontractor performance and progress.
- Coordinate effectively with geotechnical testing firms and implement their recommendations.
- Develop and maintain a current, accurate, and legible set of as-built drawings.
- Communicate clearly with local municipalities, owners, and general contractors regarding project progress and needs.
- Represent T.E. Stevens professionally in attitude, appearance, and work ethic, both on and off the jobsite.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient project site at all times.
- Collaborate with project managers and the General Superintendent to report and address conditions that may impact production; propose actionable solutions.
- Keep company vehicles clean and organized; ensure proper use and care of assigned equipment.
- Provide on-site training and mentorship for field staff on effective and efficient task execution.
- Attend and actively participate in project meetings.
- Support the development of skilled laborers, operators, and foremen through training and education.
- Identify hiring needs and assist in workforce planning and recruitment.
- Administer corrective or disciplinary actions for foremen and field workers as necessary.
- Function effectively as a key member of the project team.
- Exhibit strong leadership and team-building skills.
- Maintain discretion and confidentiality in all aspects of the role.
- Delegate tasks appropriately and ensure accountability.
- Demonstrate sound decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
- Manage time effectively and maintain strong organizational habits.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position directly supervises field personnel, including Operators and Laborers. The Superintendent is responsible for carrying out supervisory duties in alignment with company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include:

- Administering rewards and disciplinary actions
- Addressing employee concerns and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively through talking and hearing. The role frequently requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reaching with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in bridge, heavy civil infrastructure, or heavy/highway construction (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions.
- Ability to read and interpret project-specific documents, including blueprints, construction schedules, standard plans, and specifications.
- Proficient in maintaining records and preparing accurate work and time reports.
- Ability to understand, follow, and execute instructions efficiently.
- Proven ability to supervise crews and clearly communicate tasks and expectations.
- Thorough understanding of jobsite safety protocols and hazard recognition.
- Strong client relationship and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
