The Dump Truck Driver for a heavy road contractor is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy-duty dump trucks to transport materials to and from construction sites. This role is critical to the success of road construction and infrastructure projects, as the driver plays a key role in ensuring the timely delivery of materials needed for construction activities.

Responsibilities:

  1. Safe Operation of Dump Trucks: Operate dump trucks in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies.

  2. Material Transportation: Transport materials, such as gravel, dirt, asphalt, and other construction aggregates, to and from construction sites as directed by project managers or supervisors.

  3. Loading and Unloading: Safely load and unload materials from dump trucks using equipment such as front-end loaders, skid steers, or excavators, ensuring proper balance and distribution of materials.

  4. Site Navigation: Navigate to and from construction sites using the most efficient and practical routes, taking into account road conditions, traffic, and project schedules.

  5. Equipment Inspection: Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of dump trucks, checking for mechanical issues, fluid levels, tire pressure, and overall vehicle condition.

  6. Maintenance and Repair: Report any maintenance or repair issues to supervisors and assist with minor maintenance tasks as needed, such as changing tires or replacing lights.

  7. Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with project managers, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate material deliveries and ensure smooth operations.

  8. Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others.

  9. Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including mileage, fuel consumption, and materials transported, to ensure accountability and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

  10. Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service to clients and project stakeholders, representing the company in a professional and courteous manner at all times.

Qualifications:

  1. Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.

  2. Proven experience operating heavy-duty dump trucks in a construction or similar environment.

  3. Strong understanding of road safety regulations and best practices for heavy equipment operation.

  4. Ability to navigate and operate dump trucks safely in various weather and road conditions.

  5. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  6. Physical stamina and strength to perform manual tasks, including lifting and moving heavy materials.

  7. Attention to detail and a commitment to safety, reliability, and professionalism.
