The Field surveyor is responsible for all construction survey, layout, and line-and-grade activities on Marathon's mechanical and electrical construction projects. Using Topcon robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and MAGNET software, you ensure that systems are installed to design specifications — accurately, efficiently, and safely
You'll serve as the critical link between engineering drawings, BIM Team and field installation crews, working alongside Superintendents and Project Managers on commercial, healthcare, industrial, and mission-critical projects across the Southeast.
Construction Layout & Survey
• Assist with and perform onsite layout for mechanical and electrical systems: line-and-grade, horizontal control, benchmarks, and equipment pads
• Set up, calibrate, and operate Topcon robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, and data collectors with MAGNET Field
• Download and process design files (DWG, RVT) into layout software; verify coordinate systems and project control points
• Establish and maintain site benchmarks and control networks throughout the project lifecycle
• Produce as-built documentation, field survey sketches, and accurate daily layout logs
Quality Control & Accuracy
• Ensure all layout adheres to project tolerances, QC requirements, and applicable codes (ASME, ANSI, local AHJ)
• Conduct pre-installation checks and post-installation surveys to verify installed work matches design intent
• Interface with clients' surveyors and owner's representatives to resolve tolerance conflicts and constructability issues
Safety & Project Coordination
• Champion a culture of safety on the jobsite — participate in daily briefings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses
• Collaborate with Superintendents, Foremen, and other trades to coordinate layout schedules and minimize conflicts
• Assist in reviewing submittals, shop drawings, and coordination drawings for layout feasibility
Education & Experience
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years of field experience in mechanical, civil, or electrical construction
• Experience supporting multi-trade construction projects strongly preferred
• Strong communication and organizational skills; detail-oriented with a commitment to precision
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Topcon Equipment Experience preferred
• Robotic total stations
• GPS/GNSS receivers
• Data collectors —Field stakeout, as-built and grade workflows
• DXF/DWG import/export, and report generation
Relevant Exposure
• Knowledge of construction drawings, P&IDs, isometric drawings, and BIM coordination models
• Familiarity with construction layout principles and field measurements
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or Navisworks for layout data extraction or ability to quickly learn another platform.
• Ability to use Egnyte for secure content sharing between the field and Enterprise.
BENEFITS & COMPENSATION
• Competitive wages commensurate with experience
• Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance
• 401(k) with company match
• ESOP — you are an owner; your hard work builds your equity
• Company-supplied Topcon equipment and PPE
• Paid training and professional development opportunities
• Stable project pipeline — your next job is lined up before the current one ends
